Tangerine Oil

Tangerine oil is extracted from the fruit peel through cold expression method. It is known for its antiseptic, antimicrobial, digestive, antispasmodic, hypnotic, carminative, cytophylactic, laxative, diuretic, stimulant and tonic properties. It has similar properties with mandarin oil. However, they differ in the aroma characteristics.

About Tangerine: Citrus reticulata is the botanical name of tangerine. It has the same botanical name with mandarin oranges because of being as one of its varieties. This orange is native to the USA and China. It is also known as Citrus nobilis, Citrus unshiu, Citrus madurensis, and Citrus deliciosa.

Tangerine oil: The oil is obtained from the peel of the tangerine. It has a fresh, sweet, orange-like scent. This oil can be used well when blended with various essential oils including cinnamon, lemon, myrrh, black pepper, chamomile, geranium, nutmeg, rose, neroli, palmarosa, patchouli, jasmine, petitgrain, sandalwood, sage, ylang ylang, and basil.

Uses of Tangerine oil:

Medicinal Purpose:

1. It can be used as a massage oil or bath oil which is very effective for the nervous system. The fragrance of the tangerine oil helps to promote happiness. It gives calming and relaxing effect which is good to drive away anxiety and stress as well as nervousness and depression.

2. Tangerine oil has antispasmodic property which is good to relax muscle spasm and cramps.

3. This oil acts as an antiseptic and antimicrobial which help to protect the body from infections. It is also effective to kill bacteria.

4. Digestive: This oil is beneficial for any digestive problems such as diarrhea and constipation. It also helps to reduce flatulence. It is also helpful in keeping the stomach in good condition and gives assistance from stomach inflammation.

Culinary Use:

Tangerine oil has a wide variety of uses. Hence, it is also used in culinary as a cool refreshing drink. It can also be added as one of the ingredients in making cake.
