Galbanum is a tall, perennial herb with small flowers and shiny leaves. The plant exudes a gum resin which is released when the base of the stem is cut. Galbanum is used extensively in the perfumery industry as a fixative and also to add 'green' notes to fragrances. Although it is not commonly used in today's aromatherapy, Galbanum does also have some useful therapeutic properties. Galbanum essential oil is extracted through steam distillation from the resin. Galbanum essential oil blends well with the essential oils of Carrot Seed, Geranium, Lavender, Spruce and Rose Otto.
