Moringa oleifera is a petite, elegant, deciduous tree with thin foliage belonging to genus moringa and the family Moringaceae. The tree grows up to the height of 8 m and can be 60 cm in diameter. Bole curved, often split from the base. The texture of the bark is smooth and is dark grey in color.
It mainly grows in semi-arid and sub-tropical regions. It is native to northern part of Himalayan region, that make India is largest producer.

The oil is liquid at room temperature, and light yellow in color. It flavor is similar to that of peanut oil that the unrefined oil has a flavor similar to that of peanut oil.
