Celery Seed Oil

Celery seed oil is obtained from very small fruits that look like seeds. In many temperate countries the volatile oil obtained from celery seeds is used by the perfume and pharmaceutical industries extensively. Since the celery seed oil is a significant source of sedanolide it is used as an herbal remedy to treat inflammatory conditions such as gout and rheumatism. This essential oil is also known to have a regenerative impact on liver. While the seeds can be used to tackle menstrual and digestive problems, the leaves can be used to treat multiples skin ailments.

Aside from these the celery seed oil can prevent flatulence, provide comfort during jaundice, clear liver congestion, help increase milk flow among breast-feeding moms, and it can also treat many nervous system problems.

As mentioned above in another pretext the celery seed is actually the dried ripe fruit of the umbelliferous herb that grows up to 60 to 180 cm having well-developed leaves. The various parts and extracts of celery are used as spices too.

The celery seeds yield 2-3 % of a pale yellow volatile oil with a persistent odor. Although the celery leaves too yield volatile oil that oil has no commercial value.
